"The Penalizer" - Wrestling Penalty Scoreboard
***Used in the Wisconsin Individual
& Team State Tournaments***
Endorsed by the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches
Association
History: The Penalizer was developed by Xcel Wrestling founder
and Master Official, Todd Goldbeck, and is a device that is changing the face of
amateur wrestling. Due to the numerous scoring errors relating to the recording
of warnings and cautions, a need developed for a device that would clearly display
the current status of each wrestler's penalty situation. Many wrestlers lost
matches unnecessarily because of scoring errors made at the table that went unnoticed
by the coaches and the official. The Penalizer informs the coaches, official
and the fans exactly how many warnings for stalling and how many cautions each wrestler
has received up to that point in the match. It also displays how many
associated penalty points have been awarded for those infractions. At all times, everyone will be
aware of the stalling situation, and how many points, if any, the next warning
will yield. Communication is very important between all people involved with
a high school wrestling match. The Penalizer bridges the gap between the scorers,
the coaches, the official, and the fans, just as the scoreboard that keeps the match
score does. Look for the Penalizer at your next wrestling match. If it is
not there, let us know and we will contact the school.
Instructions:
When the official gives a wrestler a warning for stalling, a penalty for an illegal hold/technical violation or a caution,
the next available card is flipped over that corresponds to that wrestler's color (red or green)
and infraction type (warning/penalty or caution).
The Penalizer should be placed next to the official scorer at the head table and
should be operated by the official scorer. The only way to know if the points
are being recorded is to have the official scorer keep track in the scorebook and
on
The Penalizer.
The penalty point system for illegal holds, technical violations, etc. operates
on the same progressive scale as the warnings for stalling. Once the first
warning for stalling has occurred, and the card has been flipped over, you may use
The Penalizer to also keep track of the penalty points being awarded for those infractions.
DO NOT flip the cards over for the above infractions until after the first warning
for stalling has occurred. Once the first warning for stalling
has been given, then you can progress directly into the penalty system.
